
A project to develop a full digital preservation strategy and infrastructure for a library or cultural institution, including digitization, archiving, and preservation of historical materials and artifacts, to revolutionize their use by future generations. The project involves the digitization of physical collections, the development of digital repository systems, and the definition of metadata standards and preservation policies. It was, therefore, necessitated by the need to preserve critical cultural heritage materials and improve access to them at appropriate levels of scholarship and public education. This project is a collaboration work among digital archivists, specialists in IT, librarians, and persons of cultural heritage expertise.
Week 1-2: Inception and Requirement Gathering phases
The Important task for defining the project’s objective, scope, and top-level requirements
Collection of data and resources Week 3-5: Scanning and Data Collection
Scanning of physical collections of historical materials and artifacts.
Collection and organization of the archiving of digital assets.
Week 6-8: Implementation Phase of Digital Repository
This phase comprises the actual system implementation of the digital repository for digital assets storage and management
Development of metadata standards and preservation policies Week 9-10: Long-term Planning and Integration Phase
Creation of long-term plans for storage, migration, access to data
Integration of the repository system into the library or institutional system in place Week 11-12: Testing, Deployment, and Monitoring Phase
Test and refine the digital repository system with preservation processes.
Run the system and start monitoring digital assets for preservation.
