Patient satisfaction – A measure of healthcare organization’s performance

Project Objectives:

o Patient satisfaction survey is a valuable tool to measure the outcomes of care o Patient satisfaction survey may be a good audit tool. Patient care is not considered to be of high quality unless the patient is satisfied.

o Identifying areas of improvement in the services offered and highlighting the need for corrective actions o Patient satisfaction is the key determinant for assessing the quality of patient care o The main idea behind the project is to get a high-level understanding of service delivery o The project would involve strong observation skills basis which the student would analyze daily operations. The student would also come around to understand basic monitoring methods and tools for correction o The departments process flow must be understood well to know the ways on how to conduct quality operations efficiently and engage with patients at the same time o Understanding the basic systems in an operations and tracking of processes that span all departments in the premise.

o Identify the various methods of data analysis of patient satisfaction survey o Study the mechanism/framework that is followed by the hospital to standardize their processes o Understanding the process re-engineering requirement o Identify ways to bring in patient experience as a focal point for design of services o Study of the basic resourcing structure involved in quality management o Ability to identify and resolve potential problems before they become serious. Rate of gap closure o Study of potential methods of capacity building within the hospital P.S: You may not be able to know the exact data on errors and numerical gaps, but you may attempt to understand the data range from secondary research and get it verified by your mentor/professor or hospital correspondent Your observation skills must be strong. Keep yourself up-to-date with the latest updates on accreditation and certifications along with the details on protocols Ask question if need be Do not force the fellow organization to give you exact budgets or demand/supply values if not readily available and provided for your study

Project Tasks:

o Basic understanding patient care flow and processes o Information about quality of services o Various factors affecting patient service delivery o Background of services and delivery mapping o Developing a format/survey for data collection of patient satisfaction o Basic understanding of the monitoring mechanism within each department and overall hospital as well o Data analytics of the data/survey received The project is to enable the student to get an overall understanding of functioning of a Quality Department or patient management office in a hospital set up. The quality department is usually responsible for monitoring and improving patient satisfaction

The student must be able to provide a detailed project report involving the various aspects as defined in the charter

The student must also display some analytical skills for better understanding

Students may choose to collaborate with other fellow interns, however the report presentation shall be done individually
